Workshops
FHWA, through a contract with Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, the University of North Carolina Highway Safety Research Center, and Dr. Forrest Council, refined the initial MIRE listing which resulted in the development of MIRE Version 1.0. A crucial aspect of that effort was a series of web conferences hosted by FHWA to obtain feedback on the MIRE elements from safety professionals and roadway data inventory specialists in State and local highway agencies.
The MIRE elements were divided into three groups to address in three workshops: roadway segment and alignment variables, intersection-related variables, and interchange and ramp variables. Each workshop covered:
- Discussion of MIRE, its intended use, and expected benefits of adopting the MIRE.
- Open discussion of the elements, agencies’ current efforts to collect the data, and the challenges related to collecting specific elements.
The materials from the workshops can be downloaded from this page.
